[EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, Marc Levitan Storage Management Specialist PFPC Global Funds Services "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: RIST.EDU> Subject: Re: anyone using ATA disk systems 04/24/2003 09:24 AM Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" We have been using 3ware IDE RAID for almost six months now. Our primary TSM server (Win2k, TSM v5.1.5.4) has local attached SCSI RAID. The IDE RAID is installed as a second sever, and we access it via network file shares with FILE storage pools. On the Windows platform there is one problem though. When the 3ware card is configured as RAID5 the performance is unusable, but with it configured as RAID1 it is acceptable. APAR IC34562 was the result of working with TSM support, and I am told it will be available in TSM 5.2. In the mean time we are using RAID1 and are very pleased with the results, but plan on migrating all the storage to RAID5 once a fix is available. Currently we have about 22 nodes that backup directly into IDE RAID, and around a thousand that backup to local disk storage pools which migrate to IDE RAID storage. We currently have three of these IDE RAID servers in use across two TSM/ADSM systems. The most recent server we built was a 3.5TB (at RAID5) server, and it cost around $13,500. I can share the specs if anyone is interested. I was wondering if anyone has done this or can give truly educated comment on it. I don't know if it would be a good fit for streaming 20 backups at so it may be better as a second level disk pool. Please share your knowledge of this area... Matt
