I observed the exact same behavior on a MacBook Pro running Mac OSX 10.9.3.

However, after I uninstalled the older version of ADT, Eclipse wouldn't 
start. I have been using the ADT bundle. Is there a command line method to 
"Install New Software" in Eclipse?
