I don't think I could have put this better myself. We truly value the input from the community on the logos, in fact it spun a few different directions in our thinking around tyeing back to the OpenSolaris font/text and whether we should revisit the older Solaris/SunRise/Solar like themes. Also seemed everyone liked the 2 color white and gray text so that will definitely remain. And the initial people idea was also struck due to all the feedback from both community and internal folks there as well. Given the timeframe we're working on around the launch, we need to move forward. And we are likely closing on a decision around the many circles of different sizes coming together to represent our community. Many folks really liked it (not everyone but that would be impossible), and we feel it also showcases the many different groups (kernel, storage, networking, advocacy!, etc.) our community is comprised of vs. the O and S swirled ball. It's also something we can play off of for different treatments and sizes in different design work. The .com website design work is leveraging some early work here already and we'd also like to get the design direction out feedback as well likely next week. I certainly recognize the need to continue down the path of opening up more of Sun's work across the board which is the higher level concern, and am myself very frustrated this is taking longer than anyone would like. So in an effect to help that and tie this topic of identity together... One area that is a huge part of the identity of a community is a mascot, it's something that has been discussed before, and is something that does not revolve directly around an existing Sun trademark/logo. So, what do folks think about kicking off a community project to develop a mascot completely in the open, with anyone free to submit ideas, create imagery, pay for imagery to be created if they want :), and have the final decision being put to a vote of the entire community?
