Hello Everyone, I have some very good news to share with everyone in this list. There is a lot of things which we are doing through Mumbai OpenSolaris User Group for OpenSolaris in India in Feb.
Digit, which is India's largest IT magazine (http://thinkdigit.com), publishes a very popular series of mini book (96 pages) under the name Fast Track which is bundled with the magazine every month. Earlier this month, I worked with the editorial team of Digit and got a last minute chance to write the Feb issue of Fast Track on OpenSolaris. You all will be happy to know that Digit will be printing more than 100,000 copies of Fast Track to OpenSolaris and will be distributing it for free with their February issue :-) The chapters that I have covered in this books are mentioned in the cover page design which I am attaching with the email (you can also download it from http://kumarabhishek.com/FT.jpg ). It covers everything from Installation to ZFS, DTrace, Source Juicer etc. I have written the book keeping Indian developer, specially student developers in mind, and have tried to cover everything in a step by step like guide. This book also has a micro-site following it at http://thinkdigit.com/opensolaris and Digit magazine is also conducting a quiz competition at http://www.thinkdigit.com/osolgeekhunt/ Anyone can participate in this quiz but prizes can be won only by Indian citizens. I request all of you to check these links out and participate in the quiz! The quiz will run of 4 weeks and a new set of questions will come out every month. Participants need to keep accumulating points till the end of the month to win prizes. Prizes are a Acer netbook, 1 TB external hard disk and many more! I have also got some extra copies of the book, and planning to distribute it during the Hyderabad Sun Tech Days in March. Meanwhile if any of the osug leaders would want to have a copy of it, I can try and get it sent to them. Just write me a note privately for that. Many folks were of great help making this book possible (we got only 10 days to finish writing the book!) specially Glynn Foster, Brian Leonard, Peter Karlsson and others helped me a ton by answering many of my questions and by allowing me to use some of their contents. We are all pretty excited about this book and the quiz at www.thinkdigit.com/opensolaris and I hope this easy-to-digest 96 page book will help us further strengthen the OpenSolaris community in India.
