Test accounts are generally marked as such within a business day or two - 
you don't need to wait for the email before you can start using it.

If your token has not yet been approved, requests made against your test 
account (after it has been marked) will succeed.  Requests made before it 
has been made a test account will fail.  You can make a request with an 
unapproved token to verify whether or not the account has been made a test 
account.

If you have an approved token, you can use the ManagedCustomerService to 
check if an account is test or not by requesting the "TestAccount" field in 
v201302:
