If the Winged Monkey mobile app is a native application, why wouldn't you just use the server push notification mechanisms that Google[1] and Apple[2] provide?

Thanks Steve,

As the saying goes, Ask a silly question, get a concise, precise, correct answer.

On reflection, it isn't much of a surprise that this is a solved problem with the native toolsets. This would be the way to do it.
And I also think, that it is not just about push notifications, but also about connectivity and usage of WM outside protected networks. If I got that right, Angus was trying to suggest, that once user gets outside the protected network, whole communication between mobile WM and server, where WM runs, can be managed via tweets.
