I don't ridicule you as a teacher of art, William. I can easily imagine you
were excellent.
Realize -- you, like me, tend to speak as though from on-high a lot. In doing
that, we have to grant we make ourselves fair game for those who think we're
full of it. Given my imperious tone, if I post some fuzzy or wrong-headed
foolishness, I should accept being put down, even ridiculed in response. And
that's happened to me on the forum -- during the years when I've learned a very
great deal here.
Sure, we recoil when the other guy irrelevantly says, "And not only that -- I
bet you have bad breath!" Just a week or two ago you complained that I don't
cite a single line of yours in my criticism -- that in response to a posting
in which in fact I quoted you repeatedly. I honestly believed your recent
ratiocinations about taste in teaching were badly muddled. In criticising them

tried to introduce in evidence only your own lines. and spell out their
implications.
My posting prompted you to say my "pallid efforts at humor by ridicule only
underscore an allegience to banal, limited language," and that I remain "blind
and unfunny". I'm sorry to evoke that response from you, but it'd be silly
of me to expect love and kisses. Still, you do give me the impression that
you're an angry guy now, William, and it deforms your reaction to criticism.
For
example, sure, I may be pallid, limited, banal, and blind, but I maintain I can
sometimes be funny. I should report to you in all confidence, William, that
after Kirby Olson visited you in your studio, he told me offline that you have
bad breath. (Only kidding!)
