They're quite different, aren't they ?  But --- how to describe that
difference ?

Same artist -- same theme.

I would be tempted to say that the second piece was "too sentimental" -- but
more accurately,it has moved out of the elegant Tokyo pleasure district and
into an ordinary person's bedroom.

The tension is gone -- the scale is gone - the vision has gotten small,
ordinary, and homey.  Welcome to modern Japan!
