If this artist had done anatomical drawings of cats the way Leonardo did studies of human anatomy could those drawings also be art? My reaction to the print is positive but I have to agree that there are much better Japanese prints than that one.

So.... is there anyone here who has a positive response to this image?

Or, does everyone concur with William: "That's gotta be the worst Japanese
print I've ever seen, by far, far, far." ?

If so --- why ? Can anyone attempt to explain such a judgment ?

The artist, Yumeji Takehisa, seems to be both highly skilled as well as innovative (i.e. he came way before Gary Trudeau) -- and we have an image
that others, like myself, may rate as much better:

Why is that girl with the Gary Trudeau eyes so much worse ?

Such an explanation, whatever it might be, would be very important to the
study of aesthetics -- would it not ?
