In olden days the victor in a contest was awarded a palm, as in leafy thing.
When Ghiberti won the commission to make the doors for the rehabbed Bapistry
in
Florence, (c.1400) he bragged that he was awarded the palm of victory.

Wand is ok too but it suggests something magical.

Now, come on, everybody. I'm having a hard time with scriptions and
subscriptions, prescription, descriptions, all kinds of script-looks. I'm
confused. Does Cheerskep have a wand or a palm? Maybe he has a wand in the
palm of his hand? That would be his wand-hand, btw. Is he a wand-erer or a
palmist?

Gad. This linguistic stuff is really elusive, if you get my meaning.
