We have had a ChannelMaster DVR+ for years and it's working fine. They replaced it with a newer version (called something else), but I don't remember the name of it. For everything else we run through a Roku. We're subscribed to Netflix and Prime for most videos, but the Roku search can usually find what we're looking for on something else for (typically) a one-time fee of $2.99 or $3.99.
