Don't know about your particular phone, but my phone under WiFi calling has a network preference setting. You can tell it to prefer WiFi over cellular. Big help to me, as the cell coverage around our house is such that you have to be standing in just the right place for it to work, but WiFi covers almost everywhere.

My entire problem with Verizon by me is that they prefer their network so much that wifi calling will only kick in when it absolutely has to, instead of kicking in as the preferred source like Google-Fi. It drove me nuts, and I finally switched to Fi because my house has crap Verizon coverage.
