I put all OT threads in a folder all to themselves. I look at that folder when I feel like I need/want some entertainment. F-bombs and other atrocities do not bother me. That stopped being an issue for me back when I was in college.

But most political threads, as others have said, don't result in much useful change or new information in the end. Everyone's opinions are already pretty solidified. For an RF rookie, this list has some invaluable technical content for me even though after a few responses threads can go on a tangent. Signal to noise can be rather low at times but I still find it valuable overall.
Tagging the subject with OT should be a managable way to deal with non-technical content.
