But it still won't do certain things that make managing all of them easy. logo STEVEN KENNEY DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY & CONTINUITY A: 158 Erie St. N | Leamington ON E: st...@wavedirect.org | P: 519-737-9283 W: www.wavedirect.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Hammett" <af...@ics-il.net> To: "af" <af@af.afmug.com> Sent: Friday, January 8, 2021 11:53:05 AM Subject: Re: [AFMUG] vmware/veeam alternatives Strange. Friends of mine have used Proxmox in installations where there were many, many racks full of servers. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions Midwest Internet Exchange The Brothers WISP ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steven Kenney" <st...@wavedirect.org> To: "af" <af@af.afmug.com> Sent: Friday, January 8, 2021 10:46:26 AM Subject: Re: [AFMUG] vmware/veeam alternatives Here is the alternative I was looking at. Since Xen didn't do paravirtual before but it does now. https://xcp-ng.org/ Proxmox too many things its missing to list here. Its great for basic usage 2-3 servers definitely. I'd use it in a heartbeat if I was a small operation. logo STEVEN KENNEY DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY & CONTINUITY A: 158 Erie St. N | Leamington ON E: st...@wavedirect.org | P: 519-737-9283 W: www.wavedirect.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Hammett" <af...@ics-il.net> To: "af" <af@af.afmug.com> Sent: Friday, January 8, 2021 10:49:39 AM Subject: Re: [AFMUG] vmware/veeam alternatives What features is Proxmox missing that vSphere has (and you need\use)? Proxmox also has a backup server now, though I haven't really looked at it. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions Midwest Internet Exchange The Brothers WISP ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steven Kenney" <st...@wavedirect.org> To: "af" <af@af.afmug.com> Sent: Friday, January 8, 2021 9:47:51 AM Subject: Re: [AFMUG] vmware/veeam alternatives Oh the combo.. couldn't help you there :) Proxmox looks cool.. but still doesn't have the features Vmware does. But I hear now there is some pretty good xen material out there now. It has advanced much further than it used to be. Trying to find the link but the manager you need to pay for but its a fraction of Vmware. logo STEVEN KENNEY DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY & CONTINUITY A: 158 Erie St. N | Leamington ON E: st...@wavedirect.org | P: 519-737-9283 W: www.wavedirect.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Jones" <thatoneguyst...@gmail.com> To: "af" <af@af.afmug.com> Sent: Friday, January 8, 2021 2:16:29 AM Subject: [AFMUG] vmware/veeam alternatives Ive been running vmware and veeam forever, i love it, but we are getting priced out of continuing to use it. upgrading either is always a cumbersome task. Having been using what is probably the simplest virtualization/backup combo out there I'm guessing anything we move to will have a massive learning curve for me, What combos are out there that dont break the bank and are reliable as this? -- AF mailing list AF@af.afmug.com http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com -- AF mailing list AF@af.afmug.com http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com -- AF mailing list AF@af.afmug.com http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com -- AF mailing list AF@af.afmug.com http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com -- AF mailing list AF@af.afmug.com http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com -- AF mailing list AF@af.afmug.com http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com
