I think they would be happy with it if it was only 5 Mbps. With 10 Mbps, they would be ecstatic. With 20 Mbps they will be dancing in the streets.

I know there are a huge number of people, unserved currently except for geo-sat, will love this, even if it's 20mb/s.

Marketing people will certainly tell you that putting up 12,000 wifi APs will 1.2gbps*12,000 capacity though...

I think Starlink is probably going to work very well for what it's supposed to do, but at this point, I don't think most people really understand what it is. There's too much hype around it that's giving people unrealistic expectations... kind of like 5G.

Yeah but marketing people are dumb in every company.  I don't underestimate their engineers, but I do believe the people selling it will be prone to overstating what it does.

I think people keep assuming things like "20Gbps per satellite x 12,000 satellites = eleventy skillion yottabits"

Anybody who's ever installed WiFi ought to understand that an AP that can theoretically do 1.2gbps doesn't actually do 1.2gbps, and putting 12,000 of them in a building wouldn't let you multiply capacity * 12,000.

IMO it will be better than existing satellite systems, but it will not be a panacea, and fixed wireless will absolutely still be competitive with it.  ....and of course it won't replace cable or fiber.

As much as we all hope there are operational issues that will make it less than perfect, it is made by some very smart people.  People smart enough to land a buck rogers rocket on its tail feathers.  I would not underestimate them.  I am still hopeful that there are issues...

If the top is relatively slick, and it's almost always tilted, maybe they just need to make a thin layer of water to get it to slide off?

Found this interesting tidbit I didnt know about

Snow Melt Mode
Deployed basic Snow Melt Mode, during which Starlink produces additional heat to mitigate signal attenuation caused by snow build-up on the face of the user terminal.

He's trying to land a Methane filled blimp while ignited!  We already
