if youre looking to cobble. or happen to need an internal instant messaging
system, you could use openfire with the sip plugin for the messaging
server. Then any client with the sip plugin enabled. Spark is a great
client unless you need to have it active on more than one device at a time,
for that we use Trillian.
The mobile spark client and mobile trillian client are both light weight.
I used to run a virtual extension this way, until I remembered I didnt like
talking to customers anyway. But it was handy for when out working in the
field or in the shop
