Hi Paul, 

FYI, all Routerboard products, including the CRS, have the ability to be 
powered by two power sources. 
one via the Power port, and the other via passive POE on Ether 1. 

Routerboards will use the Higher Voltage as primary power, and the lower 
voltage as secondary power. 
The CRS is only rated for 21W of max power use.. 

I would use pretty much any small battery backup, connect an 18v passive poe 
injector to power the CRS via Ether1 as the secondary power source. 

There are a number of examples of scripts in Mikrotik Wiki, to monitor the 
voltage, and send an email alert based on any change.
