There is a company in Salt Lake City that can digitize any media. I have taken
them boxes of 8mm and VHS tapes to convert over the years. Doesn’t cost much
and takes all the work out of it.

If you are doing a lot of them, or want the highest quality results, I would
get a dedicated film/slide scanner. Maybe check out some of the options here:

Maybe skip over the ones that cost $1800-$35000.

Or just take them to a local photo store or send them to a service for
scanning. Probably you could do it at Walgreens or Costco, but I'm not sure
about the quality.

I have an Epson DS-510 at the office for scanning documents and it has worked
fine, I would not hesitate to buy one of their flatbed scanners for prints, but
I don’t think those are optimal for scanning slides even though they come with
adapters.

My flatbed HP scanner has a slide adapter in the lid to do just this. If you
don't have that I am pretty sure you can skill use a flatbed scanner for this.
Mine also will scan negatives and set the proper colors.

Subject: [AFMUG] OT: 35mm Slide Scanner

I was out at the 'rents today, and they pulled out a bunch of their 35mm
slides. Some of them are great family pictures, and historical to the area
where they live. I'd love to be able to scan them so they're more easily
viewable. Looking for recommendations for a good and easy to use Slide scanner
that hopefully won't break the bank. Also, is there a file format which is
better to use to be able to add notes to the picture. Like Date it was taken,
and who is in the photo?
