I'm not taking a stance on the political discussion. Just pointing out that the industrial revolution started in England, specifically in the textile industry. It was illegal to export their machinery or even drawings of the machinery because it was such an advantage. Samuel Slater was considered a traitor to England for building similar process equipment here after studying the machines in England and then emigrating.

We might have embraced and expanded the ideas...like a Microsoft to England's Apple.

But I will add this, the United States with all it's evil Capitalism, advanced 
the world at an unheard pace technologically for a long time and created the 
industrial revolution.  That's the difference between capitalism and socialism.
