It is best for the GOP if Hillary wins the democratic nomination. Polling data and the GOP believe it is their best path to the Presidency, as they can smear her all the way until election day. Sanders is a different story. I have not seen any recent polls that predict a win for any GOP candidate against Sanders. Tactically speaking, they need to smear Sanders as much as possible now so that they can deal with Hillary later. Trump isn't stupid.
