Depends on how far it is. In Chicago, a mile is almost too far. Phoenix, 2 miles isn’t an issue, 2.5 miles, a few minutes a year.
As for radios, I’ve only got experience with the AF24’s. Except for the very high power draw and one radio out of 12 failing in over a year, no other issues.
