I’ve never seen this (other than REALLY old equipment that didn’t support auto speed/duplex period).
And with GigE and above, I thought auto was the only recommended method. Cisco has grown mostly via acquisitions, so much of their equipment was not originally designed by “Cisco” engineers. Not sure why people assume putting the Cisco logo on the box suddenly gives something bad Ethernet characteristics. More likely, Cisco products tend to have a lot of configurable port parameters, and the defaults may not be to everyone’s liking. I think a common one is the several second delay before entering the forwarding state, if you have STP enabled without PortFast. People view this as a problem, rather than a default setting you can easily change if it bothers you. This goes against my experience and training. All my Cisco routers and switches are set for auto. The world has not ended AFAIK. Is this something unique to the Nexus product line? We were unable to get the link to work, so I ended up using a Cisco router as an intermediary. I'd like to get rid of that extra hardware if possible. -Jason
