LOL, they probably wanted to use that excuse but 50 year old guys playing night games with sketchy eyesight means it’s a 50/50 chance the ball gets caught. In this case, umm, no. But that is what the infield fly rule is designed to prevent.

Statistically, you just don’t see a lot of infield fly balls in the majors because they can hit it 400’. Hang around our league and it’s pretty common because we can’t. I was just discussing it with my wife and I realized I have never seen it that I can remember. I don’t watch a lot of baseball, but like a drop kick in football, I have never seen one one of those either. So now caught in the depths of youtube hell watching NFL trick plays. Nice way to enjoy a Saturday morning.
