>From what I understand Airmax in 802.11ac received a huge overhaul, including hardware acceleration and it was not compatible with M series airmax. Mixed mode is the answer to that, which allows M series radios to talk the new Airmax AC. So less about 802.11n/ac and more about Airmax then anything.
I have seen better performance with M clients to AC APs, and now you can do GPS Sync to M clients (officially released over the weekend, has been in beta for maybe a month.) I have one synced tower, not able to use the same channels because of outside interference, but, we are spaced 5mhz apart (which according to their design guide, is not recommended). It's been working good. I jumped as soon as the beta released because I wanted to see it working. Our immediate intent is not to upgrade clients until needed.... we are still really up in the air on EPMP vs UBNT for the long term, but that is a completely different discussion. We have a ton of UBNT deployed, and we have quite a few AC APs in place as we have touched M series sectors for adjustments over the last 6 months... we are not buying Rocket M5s anymore - mixed mode has been working that good... but we have been trying to decide if we where going to do the same thing for the client side.
