Thanks for this info and the pointers. There was an article on one of
the Alaroye reporters posted here in late December (message #461) -
quite an interesting perspective.

There was also a posting mentioning an award-winning Setswana language
newspaper in Botswana, Mokgosi, in Sept. 2004 (#222). Actually it was
a speech by its editor.

There must be others, but not much in the news I've seen. In reality,
though, the activity of indigenous language newspapers would not be
much news in many other places in the world (I've read some time ago
that there were 27,000 newspapers of all sorts in India, and you can
bet they're mostly in Indian languages, but no one makes a big deal
about it). In Africa at the moment, however, it is news, so if anyone
has more info on African language press - especially daily or weekly
papers - let us know.
