Although... I have to say that sometimes when I'm sleeping, lucid dreaming or whatever, somehow wandering the world in astounding mental clarity, (probably due to drinking too much coffee) I could argue that there is more consciousness there. Occupying more representation but less communication so... that darn sleeping rat could be doing the same.
