Programs are defined in a rigorous syntax of their own and that is called

This statement reflects a limited and eccentric understanding of what
mathematics is...

A programming language, defined with formal syntax like BNF, etc., **is** a
mathematical object, analyzable using mathematical language theory....

Of course, math is not always the best way to think about programming.  But
that doesn't change the fact that programs are straightforwardly
interpretable as mathematical objects...
