It's not really that intelligent, and it also wasn't scripted....
The Nao was controlled by a chatbot combining AIML rules, statistical
learning algorithms trained on a corpus of futurist writings, and a
little bit of physical environment aware OpenCog stuff....   These
three different sources interplayed in an interesting way, in the
robot's dialogue...

The chatbot was glued together by Murilo Queiroz (in the
VettaLabs/Novamente Brazil office at the time), and Ruiting Lian (the
Chinese computational linguistics PhD student shown in the movie, now
in HK on the OpenCog team...)

To my knowledge that Nao is now sitting in a closet at Xiamen
University, and that chatbot code is mothballed.  But we're working on
a more genuinely/thoroughly intelligent version with different robots
(a David Hanson Zeno bot for example)...
