Nature cooked up this little algorithmic number at some point, and it
has worked fine. A nice little algorithm which has been creating
forever.

Evolution also includes joining solutions together - in the form of
    sex and symbiosis.

This "merging" is about as important as the better-known "splitting"
    aspect.

Evolutionary computation enthusiasts should copy this aspect of
    evolution too.
