Anyways so I decided to check the AGI mailing lists, noticed Jim's been talking about making a naturalistic programming language. Don't know if you remember but I've been working on human speakable programming language for several years now. Actually ever since I found out about Ben Goertzel attempting to use Lojban for Novamente. I've come to realize that my project SPEL (Speakable Programming for Every Langauge) is also useful as a form of very precise automated translation, usable for businesses, policy makers, and private chat. It would be in competition with current Controlled Natural Languages. Since Mwak (current name of core language) uses features which are commonly found in all the worlds major languages, it is easy to use as a pivot between them. I currently have a javascript implementation to allow for people to do translations in their browsers, it will be usable even offline. Thus it will allow greater privacy and accuracy than google translate, though admitedly it would require much more training/learning, since the vocabulary is limited and grammar is strict. Anyways so how can this help with making AGI more globally acceptable? Because people that write in mwak or a variant, will be feeding the AGI knowledge databases, thus will be contributing to the AGI project. People feel attached, and proud of things they have contributed to. Similar to wikipedia, though a contribution in one langauge, is instantly available in all supported langauges. In this way as Steve Richfield was saying we'd need billions or trillions of dollars invested to garner enough man hours of labour. We can crowd-source the developers, since anyone that learns a mwak variant would be able to with minimal additional effort learn to program with their mwak variant, and contribute to the source base. No longer will programming be something for a mystical elite, but it will be accessible even to the african farmer, that can put together a few sentences in swahili, on their smart phone or other mobile device. Only through involving the masses can we gain their acceptance, I believe this is certainly one way of doing so. In any case, I understand the death threats and such, so I'm making provisions, and taking precautions, since I want to live a long and healthy life. Ben, our leader, and public face, is most brave for putting himself out there. Though ya, consider getting a vest, at least for those funny gut feeling events. We need you.
