This an awesome interview! Will be following the fund closely next couple
of years.

I have been lurking for quite some time and finally feel that I can compose
a set of questions that will assist me with what I want to do. I welcome
all of you to offer your input if you feel inclined and thank you in
advance.

I will first start with a short introduction:

My name is Eric and build websites that generate ad revenue or leads for
local businesses. It has been a very fun, profitable journey coming from a
real estate investing background. I got started trying to rank my own
website (for real estate) and turned it into a business. I am a born
marketer and sales person as I found coming out of my shell from being an
introverted IT nerd working on the networking hardware side. 2000 IT > 2005
Real Estate > 2013 Internet Marketing > Current.

I first learned of AGI through Kurzweil - Singularity Is Near in the year
2012. I thought the ideas were mind blowing but just put to the back of my
head. Having recently read a post on www.waitbutwhy.com about AI "God In A
Box
<http://waitbutwhy.com/2015/01/artificial-intelligence-revolution-1.html>"
it renewed my interest. I have been on a tear soaking up information and
confusing myself trying to drink from a fire hose. I have also watched
Singularity or Bust, read 10 Years To the Singularity. Also various
recorded talks on YT from Bostrom and others for varying opinions. The
recent AMA
<http://www.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning/comments/2xcyrl/i_am_j%C3%BCrgen_schmidhuber_ama/>
with Jürgen Schmidhuber was very interesting.

To my questions.

Overall main goal: Learn great code from shit code and develop a SaaS
company. (Entrepreneur in me)

Secondary goals: Learn how to program ANI type softwares such as the one
found at WordAI <http://wordai.com/>. Experiment with already available
languages? such as OpenCog and PyBrain. And most importantly have fun
learning how to program. I have no visions of grandeur about creating the
next AGI.

So they may seem basic but I need a start. Have plenty of time and
resources to dedicate in this new journey.

1) What language should I start learning? LISP? Python?
2) Are those that attempting to build an AGI working it as a "program" or
stand alone OS?
3) With machine learning more as a subset to overall AGI. What direction
with ANN's; RNN's? MNN's? (Admittedly... by far the most confusing area for
me currently)
4) Books? Blogs/Sites?
5) ? Your suggestions ?

tl;dr

Made money, now have time to learn a hobby, want to program ANI type
software, but know nothing about programming.

Most of you seem extremely intelligent and while my questions may seem
basic/elementary I would appreciate your thoughts especially with all you
have learned over the years. As I get a more generalized idea I can find
specific forums for the more succinct answers I seek.

Thanks again for your time.
