Re-reading the precedent in full, it's so full of qualifiers from the state of the rules of the time that it's likely no longer relevant. In particular, the balance between interpreting something in "common language" versus using mathematical definitions and operations has shifted (we used to give mathematical definitions precedence in the rules). -G.
