The game currently doesn't play any sounds when an enemy is outside of your ``field of view'' -- so any enemy you can hear should be almost in range.
I don't think we'd like to put in a facility to say when they're behind you as sighted people don't get this information. When we get OpenAL (3D sound) position will be easier to determine. I can't promise when it will come, though; there's very little time we have for development at the moment as I am trying to get funding for the next year of my research :-S. best regards, -- Matthew T.
