All you need is a hot key for snapping. I don't want automatic mouse
snapping because it is great for aim--if a person is just a bit off from
being north but isn't north northeast either you have to be able to aim and
make precise movements. I also use the mouse to look up and down. Now I
don't want to hear anybody complaining about my "unfair advantage using the
mouse." I am totally blind, and if you're gonna play Quake, especially if
you even hope to score a single frag against a sighted player, you'd better
learn to use it--it's the future of most gaming. It is a bummer that the
joysticks won't work though--I like those even better than the mouse. Ah
well.

I have entered in joystick commands into the config file and they do not
work. Mouse works great but if you use it to turn you get out of
alignment and don't get north, south and so on--just numbers. Great for
aiming though.

I have put on TODO (probably for someone in the future to do, not me) to
add mouse-snapping, or something similar, so that this does'nt happen.
Great idea; thanks!
