The error "No Release file found for ..." is a known problem, but it
does not matter.
What you now have to do is listed in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades
1. edit your /etc/apt/sources.list configuration file.
You have to create lines like
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ zesty main restricted universe
multiverse
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ zesty-updates main restricted
universe multiverse
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ zesty-security main restricted
universe multiverse
2. Run the commands
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade
