Are you familiar with the audio editor Audacity? I often refer to it as a word document in audio format, because of the way you edit files with it. Just like Word, you have to select text prior to deleting or changing it in any way. Audacity is free and easy to use, and is very friendly with Jaws. You say the first 4 minutes of your file is blank? No problem. With audacity, all you have to do, is find the spot in the file where the audio starts, press the left bracket to put a placemarker there, press shift J to select everything from the placemarker back to the left, then press control K to delete the silence.
