Hey Tom.
If you haven't been in preferences recently, general will be the one that's 
already selected. it's at or near the top fo the tree view. It will say 
"general" or something like that. Then tab on.

Okay...I've opened preferences, but am finding everything but what I want to 
find, which is General Preferences!  The problem I have with Winamp's 
Preferences are those doggone treeviews (I just get lost) so again...exactly 
what are the steps to getting to General Preferences in Winamp?

In general preferences, tab to check for updates and uncheck it. I have it 
unchecked and never get that reminder.
