My understanding is that Preferences -directory is used when you have a single
xml-formatted file for your settings, e.g. org.openoffice2.0.plist 

However, OpenOffice uses many files and directories for settings, currently all
of them located under ~/.openoffice.org2/. In this situation the correct place
is under "Application Support", not "Preferences"
