All this was tested with a clean Windows and OOo profile.
Windows Installer is version 3.01.4000.1823 (start, run, msiexec).
OS is Windows XP Pro SP2 (DE) with all current patches installed.

- install OOo 2.0.0 (DE)
- customized installation
- do not change any values
- except: choose all components (all checkboxes get white instead of gray)
- except: check all associations (DOC, XLS, PPT)
- do not reboot
- look in %PROGRAMFILESDIR%\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program: you have 340 files there
- start OOo 2.0.0
- do not enter any name or initials
- say "already registered"
- close OOo without doing anything else or without closing quickstart
- do not reboot
- do not uninstall OOo 2.0.0

- install OOo 2.0.1 RC4 (DE, non-JRE package)
- customized installation
- do not change any values
- all components are chosen by default
- all associations are chosen by default
- do not reboot
- look in %PROGRAMFILESDIR%\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program: you only have 56 files
there - not enough!
- start OOo 2.0.0
- Windows installer pops up
- do not enter any name or initials
- say "already registered"
- close OOo without doing anything else or without closing quickstart
- look in %PROGRAMFILESDIR%\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program: now you have 346 files
there

Seems as if the Windows Installer copies not enough files at first.
Maybe this has something to do with 2.0.1 being known as 2.0 to the installer,
just as 2.0.0 was?

If you look in the control panel, software, OOo 2.0.1 is just mentioned as 2.0.

Problem does *NOT* occur when installing 2.0.1 RC4 on a clean machine, it just
happens when 2.0.0 was installed before.
