Not really, but what's [Xorg,XFree86].log reporting?

assuming you have fontconfig and the desktop session you are running is gnome
you'd be able to change the UI font by running gnome-font-properties.

A different workaround is to enable a font substitution in OO.o
(Tools/Options/Fonts). Replace "Andale Sans UI" with your favorite UI font.
Don't worry if you don't have "Andale Sans UI" the substitution works though.

But it would be interesting if you could find out which font currently is 
chosen.
