------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 19 05:56:21 -0800 2006 ------- OO2.0.1 and OO2.0.2 RC1 suffer from some install issues. Specifically OO does not seem to register into the windows system properly. This is on Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4. In particular: * The sxc type for OO1x does not seem to be known by OO2x. (However 1x writer documents and maybe others are known). To see this get a 1x calc file -- you'll find there's no icon associated with it. Double click on it -- the system does not know how to open it. * Even more severe -- the Choose Program.../Open With dialog for windows does not have OO2 registered properly. Take a word document and try to open it with OO2 (or alternativley take the sxc document discussed above). Hold down left mouse button on the file in Windows to bring up the menu and select open with>choose program... (or just open with... depending). In the choose program dialog scroll down to find OO. First you'll find that IF there is an OO entry -- it does not have an Icon. Then if you assign the icon -- you'll find that when you open the file it's given a DOS 8 character name not the full name (so some problem in how it works). This is under OO2.0.2RC1. Under OO2.0.1 I found strange behavior -- assigning the OO application in the Choose Program box the system couldn't find OO without me browsing, and one I assigned it once -- it vanished form the Choose Program.../Open With dialog never to be seen again. This makes me think in general there is a big problem with the registry entry for OO2.0.1 and OO2.0.2RC1. * I also think we are missing some entries. In the same system menu tree (the left mouse button menu of file manager files like MS Office and OO1 files) -- there is no entry for OO in the Open With sub menu. I believe OO1 had this and frankly it's a problem not having this. Very hard to open old OO files and MS Office files without it. I rated this a level 2 priority because I think this directly effects user experience when getting started with OO -- and leaves a very bad taste -- i.e. the first things you try to do don't work and are buggy. It would be good for a developer to go over the windows registry key setup and see if there's some problems there.
