------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Aug 7 08:08:07 -0700 2006 ------- @james : do we have less stringent requirements for releasing MacOSX OOo versions than with other OOo platforms ? If so, are they available for public consultation anywhere ? While I understand that it must be very disappointing having to play catch up all of the time, and fix all the bugs that are sometimes caused by others, it was the OOo core devs' decision at the time to go with Java as the means for rewriting the database wizards. The fact that these very wizards now do not work with the pre-installed JVMs on some platforms is precisely one of the reasons why I was against this decision, and is exemplary in showing that Java, like many other languages, isn't simply "Write Once - Run Anywhere". Don't get me wrong, Java is great for some things, but we should at least then have something that works everywhere as it is supposed to do. Releasing software knowing that it will fail in these not uncommon circumstances is in my opinion a disservice to the community and all those that attempt to help out by putting the versions through testing with wannabe realworld environments. I would very much like to see 2.0.3 out the door too, but if it isn't working as it should, can we really say that it runs on all platforms ? Perhaps we should be more honest with ourselves and to the potential users of the software on the Mac platform, and indicate what does and doesn't work when we release it (since judging from the comments here, it seems to be heading for release).
