(This split up the big doc into a lot of pieces. I could preview each part and make pdfs of each part except Section 2.) I went in and changed each frame to "to character", no protection, no wrap, flow with text, and no protection on the pics in the frames. I took any table that was in a frame out of the frame and removed the frame. Some pics w/captions I moved into single cell tables (where there are a lot of figures bunched together). After doing all this, when I would preview Section 2, OOo would still freeze. But after killing OOo, I would recover the doc and THEN preview and export to pdf would work. It seems any time I change the file, preview freezes and I have to kill OOo and then recover and then I can preview and export to pdf. So there is still something screwed up in the doc.
