SBA: These are my findings when re-checking the AutoCorrect/AutoFormat options
that affect changes while typing:
Preconditions:
(1) OS: WinXP
(2) Version: OOo 2.2 (680m14 build 9134) as "officially built" by SUN.
(3) User interface: English (US)
(4) Locale settings: French (Belgium).
(5) Document language set to French (Belgium).
Test Scenario:
- Create new Writer document
- Ensure that "Format - AutoFormat - While typing" is checked
- In Tools- AutoCorrect-Options, I have checked ALL options
- Start typing to see if these listed options work:
1. Use replacement table
2. Correct TWo INitial CApitals
3. Capitalize first letter of every sentence.
4. Automatic *bold* and _underline_
5. URL Recognition
6. Replace 1/2... with ½...
7. Replace 1st... with 1^st...
8. Replace Dashes
9. Ignore double spaces
10. Apply numbering symbol
=> Result: All changes as expected
- Uncheck "Format - AutoFormat - While typing" is checked"
- Re-check 1. - 10.
=> Result: Nothing gets changed => All works fine
- Check "Format - AutoFormat - While typing" is checked"
- In Tools- AutoCorrect-Options, uncheck ALL options
- Re-check 1. - 10.
=> Result: Nothing gets changed => All works fine
So all this works "in general". Set to "Worksforme" based on the latest
available stable build.
Please note that a newly started office (no quickstarter running) is a "trivial"
(but reproducible) scenario to get an approach.
A collection of "votes" like "Works for me" - "Does not work for me" - makes not
much sense if the behavior can not be reproduced. If someone has problems to get
some of the AutoCorr/AutoFormat options to work, it is a hint "it may be worth
to look again".
Note: We must be aware that "some" Linux distributors tend to "tune" the OOo
that comes with their distribution. This is only one source of "fuzzy behavior"
of seemingly identical versions that MIGHT have an effect sometimes.
What could keep me from closing this one is a scenario that keeps some of these
options from working. Please comment if you have one, thank you.
