Open your document, make your changes and save it under a new name. The option is just to make the single XML files more human readable. Without it, the XML tags will be on a single line. Open the saved file with an ZIP tool like 7Zip, Winzip or Winrar. You can extract all of the containing XML files but the data of the file is in the content.xml . Open this file with an text editor of your choice and you can check what type of data is in it.
