The current behaviour annoyes me most when after typing a non-space-character
the previos unvisible spaces will result in a line break and I see that there
are accidentally many of them.

There are already good detailed proposels (barryii, scottydm) and I am
interested if I summarize them correct when saying:
1) If there is a serie of at least two spaces show them all independend of the
"show nonprinting characters" setting (with a may be new indicator like a
special form of a dot)
2) For wrapping at the end of the line handle the second (and following) space
like a non-space character, so snapping to the next line occurs in an expected
manner. May be I should say: tread the _last_ of a sequence of (more than one)
spaces like a non-space character to allow a serie of spaces to stay in one
line, but at the end of the line (where the spaces reach the margin) snap to the
next line to indicate to the writer where following input will happen.
And to be nitpicking: This should "start new" after snapping to the new line so
that it is possible to insert multiple lines that consist only of spaces.
