Your dialog suggestion forces the user to a sequential process to explore the
GUI and remember the way to find the desired functionality. These sub sub
dialogs are just another visualization of menus with sub sub menus.
IMHO it would be better to provide a UI that offers just the most important
functions (reduced complexity) on a contextual basis (current focus) and to
shift advanced options to _one_ separate area (i.e. “Advanced” or ”More” buttons
to show all features).
My suggestions for a future OOo GUI are:
- no (modal) dialogs at all
- direct object manipulation (i.e. graphics)
- direct object feedback (i.e. after a AutoFunctions changed something)
[addresses 1., 2., 4.]
- layout manager for a dynamically dialog/pane layout instead of adding extra
space in advance for worst case in some languages to the GUI of all languages.

- make use of 16:10 aspect ratio of screens -> side panes instead of large tool
bars on top to improve space for the document content.
Please feel free to further discuss your thoughts on the wiki or on our mailing
lists, but this feature task is to unspecifict to be accepted.
