In CWS calcshare2, which will be integrated hopefully soon, Mikhail Voitenko (MAV) improved file locking for documents on local file systems. Part of this feature is, that an additional lock file is written. MAV also made some changes to the user interaction. If a document is locked, an interaction handler opens a dialog, which allows the user to open the document in readonly mode or create a copy of the document. I'm sure, MAV can give some more details here.
