You're right, doing the word count at document loading is a bad idea :-), but
what about updating the word count for unchanged documents only if the user
opens the Statistics or the Word Count dialogs? AFAIK both Word and WordPerfect
do it that way and it seems to be a good one.
Also, why word count *is* performed when a Word document is imported? I don't
know how it exactly works now, but isn't that a performance penalty? I think the
word count should only be started (or updated) when the user opens those
dialongs for the first time, not when the document is changed.


And why word count isn't updated on unchanged documents if you go to
File->Properties->Statistics and press the Update button? (so it's a
used-requested action).
