fme->troodon: Word count is done during idle time but only if the document has
been modified, otherwise we assume the word count stored in the document to be
correct. There's one restriction: If the word count stored in the document = 0,
we start the background counting anyway. This is done because reading the
document statistic is not implemented in the current Word filter, which results
in a word count = 0 (in contrast to the rtf filter). If the document is modified
and the word count is requested before the background word count has finished
(e.g., by opening the word count dialog or by saving the document), a
"foreground" word count is started, i.e., you have to wait for the word count to
finish. You suggest to update the word count for unchanged documents if the user
opens the word count dialog. This could mean that the user would have to wait
quite some time before the result is shown, even if the document hasn't been
modified and there was a word count stored in the document. What if the user
opens a document and immediately wants to save it again, without making any
modifications. In this situation, the word count is also requested. Should the
word count update be forced in this situation, prolonging the save process? I
don't think so, in my opinion we should use the word count which has been stored
in the document, as long as the document is unchanged. But I agree with you that
File->Properties->Statistics->Update should trigger a word count for unmodified
documents. Can we agree upon this?
